Burns Taylor, award winning poet, essayist, inspirational speaker and public servant welcomes you to this site.
Author, inspirational speaker, college instructor, businessman--Burns Taylor's resume reads like the job listings at the local employment office. His life has seen more ups and downs than the roller coaster ride at a traveling show.
“Blind is when you open your eyes or close them and
it doesn’t make a difference.”
“Only he or she who has walked the path alone knows it best.”
Blinded by a gun blast at the age of three, Taylor's journey with blindness is marked by milestones and millstones, windfalls and pitfalls. He has been involved with agencies for the blind and disabled stretching from the National Center for the Blind in Baltimore to the Braille Institute in Los Angeles and from Texas to Canada.
Featured in Beyond Blindness, a one-hour documentary narrated by Patti Duke, Taylor's achievements have been written about by others from coast to coast. His own poems and articles have appeared in periodicals and books nation-wide.
Taylor holds a B.A. Degree in English from the University of Texas at Austin and a MFA in Professional Writing from the University of Southern California. He has taught composition and literature classes for 20 years.
In addition to appearances on radio, television and in films, Taylor has delighted and entertained audiences with live presentations from The U.S. Boundary and Water Commission in El Paso to the Texas Association of Educators and Rehabilitators in Corpus Christi, Texas.
